Xiaomi has introduced the YU7, its newest electric SUV under the Xiaomi EV brand. This development signifies a notable advancement in the tech giant’s venture into the automotive sector. With a starting price of RMB 253,500, the YU7 is constructed on Xiaomi’s Modena platform, aiming to attract consumers who appreciate intelligent performance, practical design, and features suited for families.
Xiaomi YU7 Variants and Specifications
The YU7 is offered in two configurations: a 2WD Pro model and a 2WD Max model, allowing for various power options to meet different driving preferences. The Max model is outfitted with Xiaomi’s proprietary HyperEngine V6s, a silicon carbide-based powertrain that can achieve peak power output of 275 kW and a maximum torque of 500 Nm. This model accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in merely 5.9 seconds. In contrast, the Pro version employs an 8-layer hairpin motor that delivers 220 kW of peak power and 400 Nm of torque.
Battery Technology and Performance
Both models utilise BYD’s blade battery technology, providing over 600 km of range on a single charge. They are compatible with fast charging, reaching 80% in just 25 minutes. Additionally, the YU7 features Xiaomi’s self-engineered “Smart Chassis” equipped with CDC adaptive damping, ensuring a comfortable yet agile driving experience.
Design and Interior Features
The YU7 boasts a low-drag body with a drag coefficient of 0.229Cd, frameless doors, and an electric tailgate. Inside, the vehicle is equipped with Xiaomi’s HyperOS, a central display of 16.1 inches in 3K resolution, alongside a head-up display measuring 56 inches. Rear passengers benefit from a detachable screen integrated into the seatback.
Xiaomi’s Vision for the YU7
A Xiaomi representative mentioned that their objective is to integrate intelligent technology into family life, and the YU7 represents that vision beautifully. They emphasised the focus on performance, aesthetics, and cost-effectiveness to ensure the electric vehicle aligns with user expectations.
Expanding Xiaomi’s EV Portfolio
The YU7 adds to Xiaomi’s expanding electric vehicle range, which includes the SU7 electric sedan, launched earlier this year and well-received for its sports-oriented capabilities. With the YU7, Xiaomi is targeting mass-market appeal, positioning it as a versatile option for urban and intercity mobility.
Delivery Plans for the YU7
Xiaomi plans to commence deliveries of the YU7 in China shortly, while international availability remains to be confirmed.
